Task force seeks insight and input on struggling parish issue
By Ana Watts
Helpful ideas and opinions, gleaned from a series of archdeaconry consultation meetings organized by the Bishop’s Task Force on rural and/or struggling parishes, will influence the recommendations and proposals contained in its final report to Bishop Claude Miller in March of 2009.
In an effort to help New Brunswick Anglicans keep abreast of the on-going clarification and improvement of diocesan legislative documents, E News is pleased to offer:
DID YOU KNOW?
The Red Book A-7 outlines procedures related to the sale, purchase or renovation of parish property. It explains that parishes wanting to transfer deeds, make architectural changes or undertake other capital projects (excluding cosmetic maintenance) require the express permission of the Bishop of Fredericton. The first step toward compliance is to contact the territorial archdeacon who will assure that the proper connections are made with the diocesan property committee. (See Canon FIVE s.1)

Help needed to respond to flooding in Mozambique
PWRDF partner Action by Churches Together (ACT) International is responding to the worst flooding in Mozambique in nearly a decade. Continued and massive displacements of people, as well as outbreaks of cholera and other diseases, are among the problems facing the southern African country.
The Mozambique government has estimated that 258,000 people affected by flooding and heavy rains require food aid, water and sanitation assistance. Emergency assistance will be required for several months, given the extent of damage to homes, other property, crops and national and regional infrastructure.

"As Christians, we are people of the story … It is my belief that, through storytelling , we can do some practical, concrete things to help nurture a culture of stewardship in the parish. This will in turn help individual parishioners understand their personal stewardship as a vital component of their faith journey."(In the book Mr. Ponting goes on to tell how his mother's move from the family home to a condominium brought home the admonition not to store up treasures on earth and eventually led him to seek ordination.)
