PWRDF

PWRDF support of International Women's Day

OTTAWA -- Both the grim reality and the recent achievements of women in Afghanistan were the focus of the International Women’s Day program sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). More than 100 people were on hand at the Château Laurier Hotel in Ottawa on March 6 to hear from a mix of Canadian NGOs, Afghani women – among them six Members of Parliament - and the Minister of International Cooperation, Bev Oda, about the situation of women in Afghanistan. Representing the Primate’s World Relief & Development Fund were PWRDF volunteers Valerie Maier and Jane Maxwell, from the Diocese of Ottawa, and Judy Oatway, PWRDF board member from the Diocese of Montreal.

STEWARDSHIP QUOTABLE

"The faith community models, supports and holds each member accountable for the maintenance it its joint mission and core values. It is in commumnity where we can call others to join us in living out our baptismal ministries by recognizing and identifying spiritual gifts, empowering their use, and givng thanks for the fruit these gifts bear in the lives of others. It is in community that you gift others by sharing your sacred story, modelling the hope within you and inviting them to make intentional Christian stewardship a part of their faith journeys."

HEAVENLY HUMOUR

A family that seldom attended church could always be counted on to appear at Easter, make a miniscule offering and complain about the service.

The mother always complained the choir sang slightly off key.

The father always complained the rector's sermon was dry.

The year their daughter was 10 she listened to them whine and said: "I think we got a pretty good show for just a dollar."
