Task force consultation throughout the diocese identifies the heart and soul of the issues. A recently launched fact-finding initiative will supply a solid backbone for the final report. CAMPS CAMPAIGN UPDATE

As of April 15 our unofficial campaign total is approximately $662,655 with $337,345 to go. That's up $42,857 since December 31, 2007. And that's $14,957 ahead of where we were this time last year.

Since the appearance of the campaign article the March NB Anglican, we have received approximately $5,985. That's approximately $1,000 a week over the following six week period.

We need to reach our $1million goal in order to provide Camp Brookwood with the $90,000 we promised them from the campaign to help refurbish their infrastructure. Much of that will be needed this summer. We also need  $247,345 to pay down the loan we took out to finish the new main hall at Camp Medley.

If you have yet to send in your envelope from the March issue of the NB Anglican, why not do it now?

I wish to thank you again for your continued support and I look forward to receiving some more mail.

God Bless and let's keep the camps programs in our prayers as the summer approaches.

Police beat up and evict Anglican parishioners

By Lance Guma

SW Radio Africa
12 May 2008

State sponsored violence against members of the Anglican Church reached new levels over the weekend as police in different parts of Harare gatecrashed church services and beat up parishioners loyal to new bishop Sebastian Bakare. At the St Francis parish in Waterfalls riot police interrupted the service during ‘holy communion’ and told parishioners to leave. Witnesses said the parishioners assumed it was the usual police over-zealousness and some of them remained seated. The police then began beating up people, including women, in the church.

STEWARDSHIP QUOTABLE

A parenting audio tape David Ponting used when his daughters were small included a plan to help children learn how to manage money. "The author suggested that children be given an allowance … Tell them they can choose how they use the money but that they must do three things each week: spend some of the money on themselves, save some money, and give some money to charities. Each week when the time comes for their allowance payout the child explains how they deployed the money the previous week in order to receive the next week's allowance. … This secular parenting trainer had a simple solution to the teaching of stewardship. Implicit in her methodology was an understanding of the need to think beyond ourselves to the needs of others and the need to manage our resources wisely by saving. Furthermore it is theologically sound and holistic because it reinforces the joy of having money and spending it on ourselves in celebration of the abundance of God."
