Special PWRDF service Oct. 15

At a service of praise and thanksgiving at Christ Church Cathedral on Oct. 15 at 4 o’clock, Bishop Claude Miller will present the collective proceeds of the diocesan walk he led for AIDS relief to Christine Kilipamwambu from the Diocese of Ruaha in Tanzania. The service will close the Province of Canada PWRDF annual meeting scheduled for Christ Church (Parish) Church that weekend.

PWRDFBishop Miller pledged to walk the 500 km diagonal width of the diocese and, with the help of the parishes in the diocese, to raise at least $50,000 for AIDS relief. He is nearly finished his walk and the parishes who have yet to complete their own walks in support of the bishop are jumping on board.

Everyone is invited to the service on the 15th, which will also be attended by PWRDF officials from General Synod including HIV/AIDS Education and Animation Coordinator Jeanette Romkema, Development Program coordinator for Africa, Zaida Bastos, and communications coordinator Diana Mavunduse. Provincial delegates from the Atlantic provinces and Quebec and parish representatives from the Diocese of Fredericton will also be at the meeting and the service.

Children will play a prominent role in the service –– it was children in the diocese that responded first to the bishop’s call for support. Contributions from each archdeaconry will be recognized.

In preparation for the service, the Bishop’s Walk Committee is preparing a Scrap Book of parish fund-raising events to include news stories, photos and other documents that tell the story of the diocesan response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Parishes are asked to send their stories, clippings and photos to the Rev. John Cathcart, jc8 at nbnet.nb.ca.
