Diocesan SynodConstitution, Canons, Regulations, Directives and Guidelines

In 2001 the Committee on the Constitution and Canons, under the leadership of Canon Charles Ferris, began a three-step project on improving our diocesan legislative documents:

1) The Anglican Church Act, 2003 (came into force that year)
2) The Constitution and Canons (adopted in November 2003) a reorganization of existing legislation
3) Reorganization of existing (quasi) legislation (policies, directives and guidelines) which is on-going

Work continues on step three.  Working groups have been engaged in specific sections as appropriate and, at the request of the Bishop, Canon Ferris is continuing to help guide the Project even after his retirement as Chancellor. An ambitious piece of work, step three is proving to be an enormous challenge with various difficulties, not least of all available time and resources of all involved.

Up to date current legislative documents are posted on the diocesan web site at Admin -->  Diocesan Legislation. Since mid 2007, there have been both routine and adopted changes to these documents as linked below.  If you have the Constitution and Canons and/or the Diocesan Handbook ("Red Book") on your bookshelf and wish to keep it up to date, you should apply the changes as outlined below.

In addition, the Diocesan Council Administration Team, as requested by the Council, especially asks that parish incumbents and church wardens take note of the existing policy regarding parish property. That document is found at A-7 Procedures re Sale, Purchase or Renovation of Parish Property.
